Last week, the Ohio Department of Medicaid reached out to the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians asking for a meeting with OAFP members to hear their first-hand experiences with the current managed care system. Medicaid is specifically looking for ideas to improve physician experience, service quality, and system accountability. Medicaid is seeking new contracts with managed care companies that oversee care for most Medicaid enrollees in the state. According to Medicaid Director Maureen Corcoran, “We want firsthand experience about what’s working and what’s not. … We want to hear from everyone who wants to be heard.”
In response to that request, the OAFP will host a meeting with officials from Medicaid (Cassandra Buxton and Don Wharton, MD) on Friday, August 2, from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Grand Event Center in the Scioto Room just prior to the start of the OAFP Family Medicine Celebration.
Please take advantage of this important opportunity to offer your ideas on how the Medicaid managed care contract reprocurement process can be used to improve the Medicaid system for physicians and patients.
Feedback provided will help Medicaid develop a formal request for proposals from managed care companies interested in the work. New contracts tentatively will take effect in January 2021.
