Bringing More Flexibility to Your Board Certification

The American Board of Family Medicine’s (ABFM) 5-Year Continuous Certification Cycle is gaining strong momentum and delivering greater flexibility, choice, and support.

Key Clarifications About the 5-Year Cycle
  1. Currently, certified Diplomates do not take the traditional one-day exam to start the 5-Year Cycle.
  2. Ten (10) certification activity points and 30 continuing medical education credits are awarded at the completion of the 300-question assessment.
  3. The longitudinal assessment consists of 25 quarterly exam questions over three to four years, for a total of 300 questions, the same as the one-day exam.

For more on completing your exam requirement in the 5-Year Cycle, check out the recent ABFM Insights blog post, Rethinking Your Exam in the 5-Year Cycle.

Helping all children thrive, because nutrition matters. In recognition of Global Child Nutrition Month we bring awareness to children at increased risk for malnutrition, including those with food allergies. Pediatric malnutrition diagnosis in the U.S. is increasing although it still often remains underdiagnosed. About 1 in 13 (nearly 8%) of American children have food allergies. Managing food allergies often requires eliminating common foods such as milk, eggs, wheat, peanuts, or soy, key sources of protein, calcium, vitamin D, and essential fats. Without careful planning, elimination diets can lead to nutrient deficiencies and impaired growth over timeDietary counseling support along with specialized nutrition options, including hypoallergenic formulas, can help meet nutritional needs by providing balanced protein, micronutrients, and energy, thus supporting healthy growth while easing nutritional management for children and families.
