10:00 a.m. COSI Opens

Registered attendees are encouraged to come early to explore the exhibits before meeting registration opens. If arriving early, please see OAFP Staff in the lobby to pick up museum wristbands for you and your guest(s).

11:30 a.m. – Noon Meeting Registration Open

Speaker: OAFP Lobbyist Lauren Huddleston, JD

Primary care physicians share many legislative interests and concerns, one being the elections this November. OAFP lobbyist Lauren Huddleston, JD, will provide an update on the legislative climate in Ohio.

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  1. Understand key legislative issues being considered at the state level that impact primary care and patients
  2. Understand the advocacy priorities for the Academy for the upcoming year
  3. Analyze the odds of favorable movement within the present Statehouse environment for family medicine including physicians, practices, and patients
  4. Better understand the legislative process and learn how to advocate for family medicine and patients across Ohio.
1:15 – 1:45 p.m. **We Are All Connected – Networking and other Awesome American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Things (one slide | three slides)

Family Doctoring leverages our connections with our patients, our communities, and with each other.  Your OAFP and AAFP bring us together to learn skills, share talent, and network – exploring how to authentically make use of who we are and who we know – while examining AAFP strategic priorities, latest updates, and your personal goals.

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
  1. Recognizing the value of successful operational, personal, and strategic networking, and the alignment with AAFP strategic priorities
  2. Authentically network with the intention of strengthening community and patient trust and personal wellness through engagement
  3. Articulate lived experience while developing and recognizing skills that connect with patients and communities and enhance care delivery and outcomes
  4. Document a personal plan and next steps to utilize strategic networking to connect with patients, communities, and colleagues to enhance the practice of family medicine.

Speaker: AAFP Past President Reid Blackwelder, MD, FAAFP

Hear respected member and national leader Dr. Blackwelder deliver a keynote address to recharge the batteries of our seasoned members and ignite passion in the resident and student members present. For those looking for positivity and hope, join us to feel rejuvenated and reminded why family medicine is the BEST specialty!

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
  1. Identify their source of joy
  2. Develop ways of sharing that joy daily with their peers, colleagues, and patients
  3. Discuss the relationship between physician well-being and patient satisfaction
  4. Explain how joy and satisfaction among healthcare professionals impact patient outcomes.
  5. Commit to new tools for engagement.

The OAFP heard your plea to bring back in-person networking with your peers and is excited to take a “tour of Ohio” to celebrate the birthplace of family medicine and the family physicians who collectively better the health of all Ohioans! Over the next few years, the OAFP will tour the state, celebrating family medicine in Ohio at unique venues that encourage socialization and networking.

By bringing the “family of family medicine” together, the OAFP will reignite your passion for family medicine and inspire the next generation to choose family medicine and Ohio for their futures!

Registration Fees

  • Members: $275
  • Resident and Student Members: $0 (please note, a deposit of $75 is required to register which will be refunded after participation in the meeting)
  • Non-Members: $335
Family Medicine Celebration registration fees include:
  • Lunch
  • Closing reception (guests and families welcome)
  • One (1) general admission wristband to COSI (general admission includes COSI Classic exhibits, the High Wire Unicycle, and the AMNH Dinosaur Gallery)

Additional discounted COSI admission wristbands can be purchased for $15 per person when registering for the Family Medicine Celebration through the OAFP website.

Please note: tickets for special exhibitions, like TITANIC: The Artifact Exhibition, must be purchased at COSI for an additional cost and you will be asked to select a time for your visit.

Registration Deadlines

Registration and cancellation requests for the Family Medicine Celebration had to be completed by August 11. No refunds will be provided for cancellations after this date.

The student and resident fees for the Family Medicine Celebration are a deposit that will be refunded after attending the Family Medicine Celebration, or if registrants cancelled by August 11. Registrants who do not attend the Family Medicine Celebration or cancel after the cancellation deadline will not be refunded.

CME Accreditation

The AAFP has reviewed the Family Medicine Celebration and deemed it acceptable for up to 2.75 Live AAFP Prescribed credit(s). Term of Approval is from 08/17/2024 to 08/17/2024. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

In an effort to promote family medicine in Ohio to all future family physicians, the OAFP will offer free Family Medicine Celebration registration to student and resident members through a member-driven sponsorship program. Virtual Membership Meeting

On August 8, members participated virtually to make their voices heard and contribute to the business decisions for the Academy.

This virtual meeting consisted of bylaws-mandated annual business activities including:
  • Election of officers
  • Discussion and approval of bylaws amendments
  • Recommendations that require approval from the membership.
