The Ohio Academy of Family Physicians enthusiastically supports the appointment of Sarah Sams, MD, to the American Academy of Family Physicians Commission on Membership and Member Services, the AAFP Commission on Education, or the AAFP Commission on Finance and Insurance.
Associate director and full-time faculty member at Grant Family Medicine Residency in Columbus, OH, Dr. Sams is also affiliate faculty at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is an innovative educator, having recently started an advocacy concentration for interested residents that makes use of AAFP conferences, chapter public policy events, and Grant’s close proximity to the Ohio Statehouse.
Dr. Sams served a five-year term on the AAFP Commission on Governmental Advocacy where she chaired the commission in the fifth year of her term. An Ohio chapter past president, Dr. Sams is currently an OAFP board member and Ohio alternate delegate to the AAFP Congress of Delegates. She also serves as vice chair of the OAFP Public Policy Committee.
In the letter of chapter support, OAFP President Don Mack, MD, stated, “Sarah’s professional and volunteer experiences make her uniquely qualified to serve capably and with distinction.”
“Dr. Sams is a respected leader at the national, state and local levels. In testament to her leadership skills, colleagues named her recipient of the 2012 OAFP Torchlight Leadership Award and, in 2013, she was selected as the OAFP Foundation Philanthropist of the Year,” Dr. Mack’s letter continued.
