The Ohio Academy of Family Physicians has nominated Jaividhya Dasarathy, MD, for appointment to the American Academy of Family Physicians Commission on Education, Commission on Continuing Professional Development, or Commission on Health of the Public and Science.
A family medicine educator, resident research education director, and associate professor at the Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) School of Medicine, Cleveland, Dr. Dasarathy practices full-spectrum family medicine. Her teaching activities focus on both clinical care and research training. Dr. Dasarathy’s passion lies not only with teaching students and residents but also with the continuing education and training of physicians during all stages of their medical careers.
In his letter of chapter support, OAFP President Ryan Kauffman, MD, stated, “Dr. Dasarathy’s professional experiences aligns well with many hot topic issues facing the Academy today. She recently collaborated with a non-profit organization in Managua, Nicaragua, to develop a Zika Prevention and Awareness Program. She is actively involved in training medical students with the IQ+ (inquiry team) curriculum. She has developed international electives in her residency program and describes her passions as global medicine and working with underserved, inner-city, and indigent populations. She went to medical school and trained in a developing country where she served as a physician for eight years before moving to the United States. And she serves as faculty advisor to CWRU’s resident wellbeing program and serves on OAFP’s newly created Joy in Medicine Workgroup.”
Dr. Kauffman’s letter goes on to say, “Having completed a fellowship in obstetrics through the University Hospitals of Cleveland, Dr. Dasarathy taught a highly-regarded procedures workshop on women’s health during a recent OAFP Family Medicine Workshop. Always the creative instructor, she demonstrated techniques using a model she personally constructed out of PVC pipe purchased at a local hardware store. In addition to her service on the OAFP’s above-mentioned Joy of Medicine Workgroup, she also serves on the Academy’s National Action, Family Medicine Workshop, and Member Constituencies Workgroups.”
Dr. Dasarathy was elected at the 2015 National Conference of Constituency Leaders to serve as special constituencies’ alternate delegate to that year’s AAFP Congress of Delegates. She just completed her term of service as special constituencies’ delegate to the AAFP Congress in Orlando, FL.
