National Primary Care Week (NPCW) is an annual event to highlight the importance of primary care and bring health care professionals together to discuss and learn about improving access and quality for all. NPCW’s goal is to engage physicians-in-training, students across the health care spectrum, and the general population on the indispensable role of primary care in our health care system.
Family medicine interest groups (FMIGs) on medical school campuses across the state are hosting events, webinars, and gatherings to celebrate primary care and the career options it has to offer.
This year’s NPCW takes place Sunday-Saturday, October 1-7, with the theme of “Preventive Medicine and Health Maintenance.” In addition to events sponsored by the FMIGs, special programming and opportunities for medical students and other health trainees to explore the significance of medical student well-being and its role in improving the standard of primary care will be hosted by the American Medical Student Association (AMSA). Topics will include lifestyle medicine, nutrition education and wellbeing, student and physician burnout, diversity in primary care, and rural medicine. For a full list of webinars, visit the AMSA website.
