Under its episodic payment system, Medicaid is preparing to roll out additional episodes of care and it needs family physicians to be part of the clinical design of those episodes. Therefore, we are looking for family physicians who are willing to serve on a clinical advisory group (CAG) for development of Neonatal, HIV, ADHD, and oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) episodes.
The “ask” for those who volunteer depends on which CAG for which you volunteer.
Physicians participating in the neonatal and HIV CAGs would be expected to review episode design materials (e.g., written paper describing episode design, key supporting analyses, and targeted design questions) and provide feedback through a structured template over am estimated three week time period. Participants new to episode design will also be asked to either attend or watch an introductory webinar prior to the release of the episode design materials. Specifically, for these two episodes, the state is looking for neonatologists and infectious disease specialists or primary care physicians who treat individuals with HIV respectively.
Those volunteering for the CAGs focused on ADHD and ODD, the first two behavioral health episodes, will be asked to participate in an estimated three live (preferably in person in Columbus, OH) two hour meetings to review episode design dimensions and related analyses to inform design dimension decisions. There may also be pre-reads to review in advance of CAG meetings. Participants new to episode design will also be asked to either attend or watch an introductory webinar prior to the release of the episode design materials. Specifically, for this CAG, the state is looking for providers that deliver care to individuals with ADHD and/or ODD including psychiatrists, psychologists, community mental health professionals, pediatricians, or other primary care providers.
If anyone is willing and able to serve on one or more of these CAGs, please contact Ohio Academy of Family Physicians Executive Vice President Ann Spicer or call 800.742.7327. The OAFP feels that it is very important to have family physicians at the table when decisions about episodic payment design are made.
Medicaid anticipates development of an additional 26 episodes this year so if the above topics do not interest you, additional opportunities will follow. Watch future editions of the Weekly Family Medicine Update for details.
