On June 15, the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians joined other health care organizations in signing an open letter to all Ohio health insurers accepting InHealth Mutual members affected by the receivership order dated May 26, 2016.
Other co-signers of the letter include the Ohio Association of Community Health Centers, the Ohio Hospital Association, the Ohio Osteopathic Association, the Ohio State Medical Association and UHCAN Ohio.
On May 26, the Franklin County District Court approved a request that Coordinated Health Mutual, Inc. (InHealth Mutual) be liquidated. The court appointed Insurance Commissioner/Lt. Governor Mary Taylor to be the receiver and operate the company as it winds down its business.
An estimated 22,000 InHealth policyholders are seeking new coverage to have begun as early as June 1.
The letter which expressed appreciation to the Ohio Department of Insurance for their efforts in making sure that the change-over process is smooth for beneficiaries states, “We request that Ohio insurers who enroll InHealth members apply the medical expenses incurred under the InHealth plan toward the new deductible and out of pocket maximum. This will minimize harm to the people transitioning from InHealth coverage. It would be a terrible hardship for those newly enrolling in a plan through no fault of their own to begin paying all of their own medical expenses when they may have partially or fully met their deductibles.”
