The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), with funding support from the UnitedHealth Foundation, is offering 30, $1,000 travel scholarships to attend the Physician Health & Well-being Conference Wednesday-Saturday, March 30-April 2, in Naples, FL.
The deadline to apply is Monday, February 21 and winners will be notified Monday, February 28. Below is more information about this opportunity.
Scholarship Information
- The AAFP will be offering scholarships to 30 applicants with priority given to residents and new physicians (7 years or less out of residency).
- Scholarship recipients are selected by a panel of judges.
- The $1000 travel scholarship is intended to help reduce out-of-pocket expenses (travel, lodging, meals) to attend the Physician Health and Well-Being Conference.
- All scholarship checks are awarded at the Physician Health and Well-Being Conference. If you are unable to attend the Conference, your scholarship will be forfeited.
Eligibility Requirements
- You must be a member of the AAFP to apply. New or lapsed memberships may take one week to process. Please plan accordingly as late applications will not be accepted.
- You must be able to attend the entire Physician Health and Well-Being Conference (defined as arriving no later than Noon on Wednesday, March 30, and leaving no earlier than Noon on Saturday, April 2).
- You must have registered for the conference.

- Please provide personal email address as hospital email systems often have spam filters/firewalls that hamper the receipt of external emails.
- You are encouraged to give considerable thought to the essay questions and draft your answers in a separate document prior to beginning your application.
- The AAFP is committed to building a diverse workforce. If applicable, you may complete an optional essay to briefly describe how you identify as someone underrepresented in medicine.
- The required online application must be completed and submitted to the AAFP by Monday, February 21. Winners will be notified by Monday, February 28.
Writing Tips
- When writing your answers, keep in mind that hundreds of applications are received and reviewed by the judges.
- Make your application stand out and try to avoid clichés.
- As the application is a chance for the judges to learn about you and your goals, you are encouraged to provide thoughtful and authentic answers.
