On February 8, the Ohio Supreme Court, for a second time, struck down state legislative maps drawn by the Ohio Redistricting Commission saying that the districts unfairly favor Republican candidates for the Ohio House and Senate. The court said the second redistricting plan was invalid in its entirety.
The court agreed with a complaint filed by the League of Women Voters that the plan was unfair. The plan rejected by the court would have created 57 Republican-leaning House districts and 42 Democratic-leaning seats. As for the Senate, Republicans would have had a 20-13 advantage of Republican-leaning seats.
The Supreme Court set a Thursday, February 17, deadline for the Ohio Redistricting Commission to present new maps to the Ohio Secretary of State. The third redistricting plan is to be submitted to the court for review on Friday, February 18.
