Burned Out or Fired Up? How to Put the Joy Back in Medicine
Speaker: Dan Diamond, MD
Physicians all share the goal of working in organizations where people are engaged and patients receive great care. But, physicians are facing more challenges than ever before. These days, it’s easy to become discouraged and disengaged. Dr. Diamond knows first-hand how to get things done when times are tough and resources are scarce. He was the director of the medical triage unit at the New Orleans Convention Center after Hurricane Katrina and he has responded to some of the most devastating international disasters of our time. His jaw-dropping stories will show you the power of mindset and equip you to thrive.
The EveryONE Project: Advancing Health Equity in Every Community
Speakers: Venis Wilder, MD, New York Academy of Family Physicians, and Gary LeRoy, MD, American Academy of Family Physicians Board Director
Social determinants of health (SDOH) such as economic stability, environment, education, and social connections can lead to significant health care inequities. Because family physicians work with people affected by SDOH every day, the AAFP developed a comprehensive package of tools called The EveryONE Project for physicians to better address these factors. Using case studies and implementation strategies, Drs. Wilder and LeRoy will share how physicians can use these tools in everyday practice to achieve optimal health for everyone.
Providing Culturally Humble Care to the LGBTQ Community
Speaker: Ramona Peel, MA, Equitas Health
The lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) community is growing both in size and visibility. This training will provide you with the knowledge, skills, and behaviors needed to best serve this community. Differences between sexual orientation, sex assigned at birth, gender identity, and gender expression will be discussed. Health disparities experienced by the LGBTQ community will be highlighted and tips will be shared on how best to provide culturally humble and structurally competent care to this community.
