On September 25, Gary LeRoy, MD, FAAFP, of Dayton, OH, was installed as president of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) during the Congress of Delegates in Philadelphia, PA.
During his first speech as AAFP president, Dr. LeRoy promised to share physicians’ challenges “with those who hold the levers of change in American’s health care system” and that the Academy will step up and lead in the face of crisis. In recognition of the 50th anniversary of family medicine, he reminded his fellow physicians that steering family medicine in the right direction will involve everyone’s dedication.
Dr. LeRoy ended his speech declaring, “That’s 50 years of dedicating ourselves to science and service, 50 years of being part of the best specialty ever, 50 years of being the heroes and ‘she-roes’ of health care in America.”
Since 1998, Dr. LeRoy has been a dedicated member of the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians. He has served as president, vice president, treasurer, AAFP delegate, and chair of various committees. He is a valued member of the OAFP and the Academy is proud to have him representing the family physicians of the United States as AAFP president!
