New funding is available for health, medical, behavioral health, and dental physicians and other healthcare professionals to help them develop or improve their patient nicotine cessation policies, procedures, and practices through the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) Tobacco Use Prevention and Cessation Program (TUPCP). Up to $5,100 is available based on the completion of several deliverables.
Studies show that advice from a physician or other healthcare professional to quit nicotine use is an important motivator to making a cessation attempt. Cigarette smoking remains the leading cause of preventable disease, disability, and death in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
- Receive training on evidence-based nicotine cessation
- Support enhanced office workflows that increase clinician screening for nicotine use and referrals to the Ohio Tobacco Quit Line
- Increase patient/nicotine user quit attempts
- Increase successful patient quit attempts.
