The Board of Directors would like to recognize the following officers whose service has ended: John DiSabato, MD, FAAFP; Bryan Ghiloni, MD, MBChB, FAAFP; Jeff Harwood, MD, FAAFP; Ryan Kauffman, MD, FAAFP; Renee Markovich, MD, FAAFP; Maya Prabhu, MD; Shaina Rood, DO; Anna Squibb, MD, FAAFP; and Emily Balon, MD—thank you!
American Academy of Family Physicians’ (AAFP) Executive Vice President and CEO Shawn Martin participated as an honored guest and representative of the AAFP. In addition to installing OAFP’s newly elected directors and officers into OAFP Board service, Shawn shared valuable insight into the organizational priorities and favorable financial health of the AAFP as it emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Shawn’s connection with the OAFP runs deep. His father, a family physician from rural Oklahoma, worked closely with Dr. Harley through an international medical experience and the two of them forged a unique an special bond. Shawn’s father instilled a sense of duty to inspire the next generation to be better than the last. Both Shawn and Dr. Harley are personally connected through this simple but powerful life-lesson that rings true and ever-present in their lives today.
- Family Physician of the Year – Stanley Anderson, MD, FAAFP
- Family Medicine Educator of the Year – Bruce Binder, MD, PhD, ABFP

The OAFP Foundation (Foundation) celebrated its hallmark programs, thanked donors, and acknowledged the many committed family medicine preceptors that provide meaningful student learning opportunities through the Leroy A. Rodgers, MD, Preceptorship Program, the Foundation’s signature initiative. The Foundation raffled an opportunity to design a custom quilt with Past President and quilting enthusiast Sarah Sams, MD, FAAFP. The Past Presidents’ Quilt Raffle is an OAFP annual meeting activity that dates back to 1990 and all proceeds support Foundation activities.
The close of the evening was capped with a member-wide Town Hall session that was facilitated by Mike Sevilla, MD, FAAFP. Executive Committee members answered member questions on topics ranging from physicians’ rights to medical conscious to the adequate level of primary care spend to an update on the AAFP’s 25% by 2030 initiative. The conversation covered the gamut of family medicine and connected the dots to the OAFP’s new strategic plan.
Members are encouraged to contact the OAFP if they have additional questions or ideas. The conversation never ends, it’s always evolving. The OAFP needs all member voices in order to provide the most valuable solutions to the diverse needs of its members. Thank you for your membership and for another year of dedication to your patients and your communities.
