OAFP Member Gary LeRoy, MD, FAAFP, was recognized with the OAFP Torchlight Leadership Award during the meeting. This award is given to extrodainary leaders who best champion the mission and vision of the OAFP to improve the health of patients by advocating for and advancing the specialty of family medicine, and providing valuable solutions to the diverse needs of members. Dr. Sevilla virtually presented the award to Dr. LeRoy and had the following to say:
“Since 1998, Dr. LeRoy has been a dedicated member of the OAFP. He has served as president, vice president, treasurer, AAFP delegate, and chair of various committees. He is a valued member of the OAFP and the Academy is proud to have him representing the family physicians of the United States – first as AAFP president, and now as AAFP Board Chair. During his first speech as AAFP president, Dr. LeRoy promised to share physicians’ challenges ‘with those who hold the levers of change in American’s health care system and that the Academy will step up and lead in the face of crisis.’ Now, as his tenure at the top comes to a close, Gary’s words ring true because Dr. LeRoy delivered on his promise. He fearlessly shepherded a nation of family physicians through the uncertain storm and continues to shine his light on our collective path.”
Outgoing OAFP President Dr. Sevilla was recognized for his tremendous dedication and commitment to the OAFP over the past year. As a token of appreciation for his year of service, Dr. Sevilla was presented with a framed print titled, “Norman Rockwell Visits a Family Doctor.” As an homage to his relentless passion to advocate for family medicine wherever he goes via social media, he received GoPro. Dr. Sevilla also received a personalized gavel plaque commemorating his year as OAFP’s president.
Dr. LeRoy provided an AAFP update and installed OAFP’s newly elected officers and president. The OAFP looks forward to Dr. Zryd’s leadership this year!
The OAFP Board of Directors and staff greatly appreciate the service and sacrifice of all who display profound courage during the continued COVID-19 pandemic. We look forward to bringing the family of family medicine together again in person in 2022!
