Ohio Academy of Family Physicians Past President Brian Bachelder, MD, FAAFP, of Akron, OH, was installed president of the Ohio State Medical Association (OSMA), the state’s largest physician-led organization, during the OSMA’s annual meeting held April 2. Several OAFP leaders were in attendance to support him. Dr. Bachelder’s one-year term began April 3.
Dr. Bachelder said he plans to lead the association through a strategic planning process to assure that the OSMA’s mission and vision is properly aligned with the needs of Ohio physicians. His goal is to engage physicians and increase membership in the OSMA.
Dr. Bachelder is currently the clinical associate director of family medicine at Akron General Hospital. He previously served on the CliniSync Board of Directors and was an American Academy of Family Physicians alternate delegate for the OAFP. He has served as an OSMA district councilor and reference committee chairman.
Dr. Bachelder is an Ohio native, graduated from Dartmouth College, and earned his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati. Before joining Akron General Hospital, Dr. Bachelder ran a rural, solo private practice in Mount Gilead, OH, for 25 years.
Also during the OSMA annual meeting, family physician and OAFP member Robyn Chatman, MD, MPH, CPE, FAAFP, of Cincinnati, OH, was elected OSMA president-elect. Dr. Chatman specializes in clinical informatics and works for Accenture/Sagacious Consultant, a health care technology firm.
