On December 10, the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians joined the Ohio State Medical Association and a host of other physician organizations in expressing concern with House Bill (HB) 388, the surprise billing legislation, as currently drafted.
Physicians support giving patients strong protections against surprise bills, but doing so without taking action that threatens access to quality care because the physician-insurer contracting process has been severely disrupted. The system needs to be comprehensive, balanced, and fair for all parties and HB 388, as currently drafted, does not create a fair system. We fear that passage of the current version of the bill might only exacerbate problems for physicians and patients.
In the letter, signers express their ongoing commitment to working with the Ohio General Assembly and other interested parties in creating a meaningful solution that protects patients against surprise bills, but does not, in the process, disadvantage physicians in the contracting process with insurers.
What are the negatives of the bill?? POsitives of the bill?
