The State Medical Board of Ohio (SMBO) is conducting a pilot program through CE Broker to audit the continuing medical education (CME) credits of licensees. Physicians who have been selected for the random CME audit are beginning to receive email notification about the new process from the SMBO. The email is from notifications@cebroker.com and the subject line of the email is Audit instructions – 35.049415. The Ohio Academy of Family Physicians has already complained to the SMBO that subject line needs to be clear that the email is from the SMBO and is regarding CME audits that impact licensure.
If you receive the email, the SMBO has randomly selected your license. The email lists a license number and states the continuing education audit is for a specific registration period (dates of registration period are stated). The email indicates that CE Broker is the system of record that the SMBO is using for the collection and auditing of continuing education data. In order to complete this audit, the licensee must submit documentation of required continuing education hours (credits) in CE Broker within thirty (30) days of receiving notice.
If a licensee previously used CE Broker to report hours for another state’s license, the licensee should be sure to report those same hours for their Ohio license if applicable. The SMBO will only be able to access the information that is submitted for your Ohio license.
The email gives the email recipient a login for the CE Broker System and tells the recipient to use that login name to create your password. Once you have created your password you can simply log into your account on CE Broker’s website to report your hours. Those American Academy of Family Physicians/OAFP members who utilize the AAFP CME tracking system can download their transcript from the AAFP website and then upload the transcript directly into the CE Broker system by utilizing the Report CE button.
Acceptable documentation of continuing education hours includes certificates, education transcripts, activity logs, or other evidence of completion. The documentation must indicate the name or type of program/activity, date of completion, and the number of hours claimed. Again, your AAFP CME transcript is the simplest way to document.
All hours claimed must have been completed during the stated registration period. Further information can be found under the Continuing Education section specific to your license type on the SMBO website under the Renew tab.
Failure to comply with this notice, or to meet the continuing education requirements, may result in disciplinary action by the SMBO. Once you have reported your hours to CE Broker, no further action is required on your part. The SMBO will notify you via email once your audit is complete or if additional information is needed within 15 business days following the due date of the audit.
If you have any questions regarding this audit, please contact the SMBO or call 614.466.3934. For questions regarding CE Broker, please contact visit the CE Broker Support Center or send an email to support@cebroker.com.
