Residency Program: Mountain Area Health Education Center – Boone
“I was devastated when I didn’t match, and then the universe gave me the biggest blessing when I SOAP’ed into a program even better than the one I thought I wanted. I can’t wait to make Boone, NC, my Appalachian mountain home. Rural family medicine training, here I come!”
Names: Lyndsey Matus and Alex Best
Medical School: University of Toledo College of Medicine
Residency Program: Nellis Air Force Base Family Medicine Residency
“My sister, Alex, and I were both in the preceptorship program between our first and second years of medical school. We both had an interest in family medicine as we were entering medical school, but having the opportunity to spend time in family medicine clinics through the preceptorship program helped solidify our decisions to pursue family medicine as a career. We continued to fall in love with it over the course of our clinical years, and we are happy to share that we matched at our number one program! We will be headed to Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, NV. We are excited to continue to train as family physicians! Through the military, we have matched within a sub-category of Operational Family Medicine, with the plan to become flight surgeons once we complete our residency training.”
Congratulations to all who matched this year, and welcome to the family medicine family!
