The number of pediatric hepatitis cases under investigation by international health officials has passed 450, according to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control. Researchers are examining tissue samples and studying whether an adenovirus or the novel coronavirus could be involved in the cases.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in an updated recommendation that clinicians should consider adenovirus testing for patients with hepatitis of unknown etiology and to report such cases to their state or jurisdictional public health authorities.
