On December 16, 2015, Governor’s Office of Health Transformation Director Greg Moody submitted the final report of the Graduate Medical Education (GME) Study Committee to Governor Kasich and legislative leaders.
The GME Study Committee met twice (on October 29, 2015 and November 30, 2015) making substantial progress in revising the way the Ohio Department of Medicaid (ODM) funds graduate medical education. The decades-old formula unevenly distributes funding for resident training and is not distributed in ways that incentivizes production of the kinds of physicians that are most needed.
ODM Director John McCarthy has been charged with setting in motion the process to act on the submitted recommendations.
