The United States is experiencing an unprecedented increase in the number of opioid-related deaths due to opioid use disorders and co-occurring medical and mental disorders. In addition, the opioid and stimulant crisis has strained the entire healthcare system and demands an array of solutions.
Join Opioid Response Network (ORN) consultant Nevaeh Burton-Anderson on Wednesday, September 20, from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. for the Equity Matters: Exploring Social and Health Disparities among the Sexual and Gender Diverse Community Webinar to explore social and health disparities among the sexual and gender diverse (or LGBTQ+) communities.
LGBTQ+ people are met with a variety of intersecting experiences such as racism, discrimination, and stigma that can lead to elevated rates of substance use and co-occurring psychiatric disorders.
This webinar will provide physicians the opportunity to learn about the ORN and its evidence-based resources that can assist in addressing opioid and stimulant use, prevention, treatment, and recovery in LGBTQ+ communities in a culturally responsive and structurally competent manner.
This webinar is being offered free of charge as a benefit of membership and thanks to an education grant received from the American Academy of Family Physicians’ (AAFP) National Research Network project.

About the ORN
The early misuse of prescription or illicit drugs increases the chances of addiction throughout the lifespan. Educating and empowering communities and physicians to prevent use and exposure to drugs leads to measurable impact in life-threatening behaviors. The ORN is here to help create recovery programs and trainings that are research-based and can help people recover from Opioid Use Disorder. Like other chronic diseases, recovering from opioid use disorder involves a continuum of care that includes medication, counseling, and peer and community support.
