Nathaniel Overmire, DO, was appointed by the Franklin County Democratic Party in December 2022 to the public office of Franklin County Coroner.
Dr. Overmire is a proud osteopathic family physician. He grew up in Fostoria, OH. He came to Columbus, OH, in 2004 to complete his undergrad at Capital University and then went to medical school at the Ohio University (OU) Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, OH. Finally, he returned to Columbus for residency at Grant Medical Center where he served as chief resident.
Dr. Overmire has been a full scope primary care physician for the last several years, having recently transitioned to a more acute care role at OhioHealth urgent cares. He is also a part-time faculty member at the OU Dublin, OH, campus teaching clinical skills to first- and second-year medical students.
At the Ohio Statehouse, Dr. Overmire has testified on vaccines bills and assisted in advocacy efforts on state policy. He currently serves as the Central Ohio Region Director on the OAFP Board of Directors and served on behalf of the OAFP as the New Physician Delegate to the American Academy of Family Physicians National Conference of Constituency Leaders, in particular working on a resolution that redefines diversity in family medicine: a far-reaching youth pipeline for workforce development. Additionally, Dr. Overmire is a co-chair of the OAFP Public Policy Committee.
Dr. Overmire is excited for the opportunity to serve the residents of Franklin County. He wants to exemplify servant leadership – a philosophy he learned as an Albert Schweitzer Fellow. He wants to give back and be engaged in our communities and in all of our neighborhoods. He sees an incredible opportunity to engage residents on topics of public health and partnering with other county leaders to improve services for the benefit of residents. He’s a listener and a thoughtful leader ready to work with all stakeholders to share ideas, educate and mentor, and most importantly listen, listen to people and their concerns.
Dr. Overmire loves working with people and getting to understand their unique stories. Just as he advocates for each of his patients, he plans to advocate with the same attention to detail and care for the people of Franklin County. He has a simple plan to lead in the office: set clear expectations, genuinely care, give helpful feedback, embody the culture he wants to see, and smile.
Ohio Academy of Family Physicians Government Relations Director Jeremy Blake provided support and guidance during the appointment process. The Academy congratulates Dr. Overmire on his appointment and wishes him well in his new role as a public official.
