On March 29, the American Academy of Family Physicians and other organizations wrote the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to urge that the CMs Innovation Center accelerate CPC+ payments to participating health care providers. The letter warned that primary care physicians and providers on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic are facing severe and growing financial difficulties.
On April 8, the AAFP and others wrote CMS, calling for the agency to:
- provide payment parity between telephone evaluation and management codes 99441-99443 and office visit E/M codes, and
- immediately provide guidance to Medicare Administrative Contractors to ensure that recent CMS guidance and rules are followed appropriately to enable the payment of telephone E/M claims.
