ODH Resources
ODH has developed a monkeypox website that includes information on the monkeypox virus, including reporting information.
CDC Health Alert: Update for Clinicians on Monkeypox in People with HIV, Children and Adolescents, and People who are Pregnant or Breastfeeding
As of July 29, the CDC and state and local public health partners are reporting 5,189 cases of Monkeypox virus infections in the United States across 47 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. The CDC is also reporting multiple outbreaks of monkeypox that have been reported globally in 71 countries that do not normally report monkeypox activity. On July 22, the CDC reported the first two cases of monkeypox in children in the United States during the current outbreak.
This Health Alert Network Health Update serves to alert clinicians to clinical considerations for preventing, diagnosing, and managing monkeypox in people with HIV, children, adolescents, and people who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Any immunization for any disease to individuals 13 years old or older without a prescription
- Any immunization for any disease to individuals ages 7-12 if there is a prescription for the immunization (except as provided below for COVID-19 vaccines and flu shots)
- Food and Drug Adminisgration-authorized COVID-19 vaccines and flu shots to individuals starting at seven years old without a prescription.
Pharmacists and pharmacy interns are permitted to administer monkeypox vaccines if authorized by the pharmacy’s physician-approved protocol. Pharmacists and pharmacy interns must comply with all other requirements for the administration of vaccines pursuant to Ohio Administrative Code (OAC) 4729:1-3-02 and OAC 4729:2-3-03.
