The OAFP Foundation (Foundation) is seeking medical students interested in serving on its board of trustees.
Students interested in serving, should provide a brief statement describing their interest in serving on the Foundation Board of Trustees, as well as a current CV, to Kaitlin McGuffie by Friday, June 22.
The helpful advice and good insights contributed to the Foundation by student trustees assists the continuing development of programs that provide medical students with a better understanding of family medicine, encouragement to choose the family medicine specialty, and development of future leaders for the specialty.
Specific duties for each student trustee include:
- Representing the students through attendance at board meetings; attending all meetings and contributing to the discussion;
- Serving as a liaison between the Foundation and Ohio Academy of Family Physicians student membership;
- Sharing information about activities and problems that need reported to the Foundation board;
- Reporting on Foundation activities to student members;
- Serving as a resource to student members;
- Encouraging involvement in the OAFP by student members; observing members and making appropriate recommendations relative to their potential service on OAFP and/or Foundation committees and in other leadership positions.
Commitments:
- Student trustees serve an initial one-year term and may be re-appointed to serve additional term(s). Terms begin Sunday, July 1.
- There are usually four Board meetings per year. These are usually scheduled to coincide with OAFP cluster weekends. Board meetings are usually two hours in length.
- Attends Foundation board meetings and the meetings of committees/teams to which the student trustee has been assigned.
Reimbursement:
- Student trustees’ travel will not be reimbursed in accordance with the current Foundation travel reimbursement policy.
