Ohio Academy of Family Physicians (OAFP)-supported House Bill (HB) 412, legislation that creates the Ohio Rare Disease Advisory Council, is on its way to Governor Mike DeWine for signature.
The OAFP supported this legislation as a means to improve public policy for people with “rare” orphan diseases. On December 2, the Ohio Senate passed HB 412 and on December 8, the Ohio House of Representatives concurred with Senate amendments.
The legislation requires broad participation from different health care sectors in Ohio. The Rare Disease Advisory Council will serve as an educational resource to all stakeholders about the ways in which rare disease patients interact with the health system.
