After Black Friday and Cyber Monday, now is your chance to give back to your specialty and participate in Giving Tuesday!
The OAFP Foundation (Foundation) works to cultivate student career choice in the specialty of family medicine and ensure a thriving family physician workforce for Ohio. Foundation programs have benefited thousands of Ohio medical students and residents through preceptorship stipends, event scholarships, and programming to provide meaningful, family medicine-focused experiences.
We are so thankful for the support of our individual donors, corporate members, and other partners who make possible the widespread success of the Foundation year after year. For continued growth moving forward, we need all of you!

Hear from some of this year’s student participants in the Preceptorship Program and National Conference:
“The four weeks that I was able to spend at Ohio Health Eastside with Dr. Quade were extremely impactful and I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to participate in this externship. My first year of medical school was challenging not only because of the fact that it was largely conducted online due to the pandemic but also because I had trouble finding inspiration or a driving force to opening up the notes to study. This externship reminded me of the goal I am working for, and the patients I had the opportunity to meet and help care for will inspire me to continue so that I may be an advocate for patients like them in the future.” Rachel Sperling, M2 – The Ohio State University College of Medicine
“My experience with the preceptorship opened my eyes to how special and impactful it is to be a family medicine doctor. Family medicine has become my top choice specialty. I’ve learned that as a family medicine physician, you are on the frontlines of patient care. You have the important tasks of both preventive medicine and making wide differential diagnoses. You are also able to form long-term relationships, not just with individuals, but with their partners, their children, and their parents.” Ashley Cantu, M2 – Case Western Reserve Medical School
“Family medicine has always interested me since starting medical school, so the Leroy A. Rodgers, MD, Preceptorship Program was the perfect opportunity for me to learn more and see it in action. I completed my rotation in a residency clinic which allowed me to observe a variety of styles of practicing medicine and preview what residency may look like for me in the future. I was exposed to the breadth of family medicine – from seeing a teenager who needed a physical for marching band to observing a skin punch biopsy for a potentially concerning lesion. I especially enjoyed the moments when I had the privilege of being directly involved in a patient’s care, whether it be taking a history, auscultating heart and lung sounds, or applying my osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) skills.” Deborah Hong – M2, Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine – Dublin
“This was my first National Conference. I heard about it during my OAFP Summer Preceptorship and thought it would be a great way to learn more about family medicine and potentially make connections with others who are as passionate about the specialty as I am. This turned out to be an incredible weekend full of wonderful speakers and insight into what the field has to offer.” Brooklyn McGue – M2, University of Toledo College of Medicine
“I unexpectedly gained an even deeper respect and increased enthusiasm for family medicine from National Conference. My eyes were even further opened to the wide scope of issues family medicine physicians see and deal with on a daily basis. The scope of practice is basically endless and family medicine allows me the opportunity to narrow my future practice to my passions. I was very moved by the many speakers and hearing of their many passions. Family medicine is continuing to challenge healthcare and improve it for patients. I cannot express my gratitude enough for allowing me the opportunity to attend National Conference this year. These are the tools that teach students the various things medical schools do not throughout our education and give us the opportunity to network with many peers. I felt blessed to be surrounded by so many current and future family physicians. I will sure be back for future conferences!” Brandon Wolters, M2 – Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dublin
