On April 24, American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) President Tochi Iroku-Malize had a conversation with a senior Centers for Medicare and Medicare Services (CMS) adviser about coming updates to several key pandemic-related policy changes and flexibilities. Members are invited to watch this members-only webinar.
The conversation confirmed that Medicare coverage for COVID-19 vaccination and treatment will remain in place without cost-sharing after Thursday, May 11, and that most Medicare telehealth flexibilities, including coverage for audio-only appointments, extend through 2024. The webinar also explains how family physicians can help patients who may be at risk of losing Medicaid coverage.
The CMS post-public health emergency (PHE) “roadmap” reflects the Academy’s staunch advocacy for family medicine practices throughout the pandemic. The webinar, available on demand for members, is part of the AAFP’s efforts to ensure that federal and state policies post-PHE recognize and protect family medicine’s foundational role in the nation’s healthcare system — and that members have the information and resources to adapt to what’s ahead.
