The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has planned for the federal public health emergency (PHE) for COVID-19, declared under Section 319 of the Public Health Service Act, to expire on May 11.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) remain dedicated in their efforts to prevent severe illnesses and death from COVID-19, and their work to reduce the negative impacts of COVID-19 will continue.
- Physicians and other healthcare professionals should continue to administer available COVID-19 vaccine to any eligible patient regardless of their insurance status.
- Physicians and other healthcare professionals will continue to order COVID-19 vaccine using the ODH ImpactSIIS Vaccine Ordering Management System. There is ample supply of COVID-19 vaccine available for ordering.
- Vaccine will continue to be supplied to your locations free of charge. Physicians and other healthcare professionals cannot charge for the cost of the vaccine.
- Physicians and other healthcare professionals may seek appropriate reimbursement for the vaccine administration fee by billing the patients’ insurance plan, Medicaid, or Medicare.
- Patients should not have any out-of-pocket expense when receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
Additional information regarding the future commercialization of COVID-19 vaccine will be sent to physicians and other healthcare professionals once it becomes available from our federal partners.
As a reminder, the CDC has updated the Interim Clinical Considerations for Use of COVID-19 Vaccines Currently Authorized in the United States reflecting the recent simplified and expanded use of bivalent mRNA COVID-19 Vaccines.
