HPV Vaccination QI Program: Team Resources & Materials

Thank you for participating in the virtual Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) Vaccination Quality Improvement (QI) program. This page should guide you through the remaining stages of your project. Provided below are links to background information and clinical guidelines as well as educational videos from expert speakers on the topic.

In order to receive performance improvement (PI) credit, our mutual goal for this program is to pull data on the following quality measures:
  • Percentage of patients age 11 – 26 with at least one (1) HPV vaccine
  • Percentage of patients age 11 – 26 with a completed HPV vaccine series
  • Percentage of patients with a completed HPV vaccination series by age 13 (NQF 1407, MIPS #394, HEDIS measure), if possible.

However, how you get there and the interventions you choose to implement to improve these rates is up to you and your team! You and your practice team have the flexibility to construct your project as you see fit.

To get you started and to help guide you through the process, we’ve curated and created helpful materials, provided below, that will set your team up for success. Work together as a team to identify gaps in care around HPV vaccinations and create a QI plan to implement over the next three months.

CME Recorded Webinars Evaluation

The recorded webinar series below includes information on general background of HPV infection, an overview of HPV-associated cancer and disease, HPV vaccination guidelines and updates, as well as strategies to implement changes for this project. Please review each session as part of your performance improvement process and then complete the evaluation.

The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) has reviewed the HPV Webinar Series, and deemed it acceptable for up to 1.75 Enduring AAFP Prescribed credits. Term of approval is from January 23, 2023, to January 23,2024. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Quality Measures & Intervention Selection

Process Mapping

Workflow and process mapping creates a visual map of the steps your practice currently uses for specific patient care or an administrative task.

Benefits of process mapping include allowing the entire team to visualize and appreciate what role/contribution they and their colleagues play in the care of patients; gives an overview of the current processes that allows the team to plan for change; identifies unintended variations in care, inefficient procedures, and opportunities to involve other team members in care; improves communication between team members; gives team members increased ownership in patient care; and can increase employee job satisfaction.

View an outline of the mapping process and the following instructional video on the process or reference the “Team-Based Care and Workflow Mapping” webinar included under the CME Recorded Webinars drop-down:

AAFP Credit Statement
The AAFP has reviewed the Virtual HPV Vaccination QI Program and deemed it acceptable for up to 20 Performance Improvement AAFP Prescribed credits. Term of Approval is from Monday, January 23, 2023, to Thursday, January 23, 2025. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

AAFP Prescribed credit is accepted by the American Medical Association (AMA) as equivalent to AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™ toward the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award (PRA). When applying for AMA PRA credit, Prescribed credit earned must be reported as Prescribed, not as Category 1.

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn twenty (20) Performance Improvement points in the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) Family Medicine Certification program.

Credit Submission
The OAFP will submit credit on behalf of each family physician participating in this program. In order to receive credit, each physician requesting credit should submit an attestation form and ensure the rest of the required materials, including baseline and outcomes data, has been submitted for the team. Final requirements are listed above under “important program materials and deadlines.”
