The next session of the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians’ (OAFP) Bite-Sized Learning program is set for Sunday, March 14, at 8 p.m. This week’s session is titled “Navigating the Opioid Crisis & Chronic Pain Management.” Members can join the conversation by logging on to the OAFP’s Facebook page or YouTube channel to watch live.
Moderated by OAFP President Mike Sevilla, MD, this session will feature David O’Gurek, MD, FAAFP, a family physician from Pennsylvania. Dr. O’Gurek practices comprehensive outpatient family medicine, as well as serves as medical director of the TRUST Clinic, an office-based opioid treatment (OBOT) program for patients who have opioid use disorder (OUD). He also serves as director of Begin the Turn, a community-based, multidisciplinary mobile care unit serving patients with OUD and homelessness in North Philadelphia. Notably, he has partnered with the City of Philadelphia and its agencies to address the overdose crisis. He is a former chair of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Commission on Health of the Public and Science and former board chair and president of the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians.
Not only will Dr. O’Gurek provide a presentation on the national opioid crisis and share insights from his work, he will also join Dr. Sevilla in discussing the AAFP’s newly released chronic pain management toolkit. Drs. Sevilla and O’Gurek will provide practical examples of how best to use the toolkit in practice. You won’t want to miss this valuable presentation with tips that will impact your work right away!
The AAFP Chronic Pain Toolkit, developed by the Academy with partial funding from a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration grant and published online in February, provides family physicians with an assortment of items to aid in the effective assessment, diagnosis, and management of chronic pain.
*This session was sponsored by the AAFP as part of a grant to disseminate the new toolkit.
The OAFP will host these learning sessions on Sunday evenings as we have speakers and topics. Members can join the conversation by logging on to OAFP’s Facebook page or YouTube channel to watch live.
