In March, the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians Board of Directors conducted a member value survey to better understand the changing needs of our diverse membership so that OAFP’s services and programs could be better aligned and benefits enhanced. 270 active (11%) and 25 (5%) resident members participated in the survey; providing modest yet helpful guidance to Academy leaders.
86% of members agreed or strongly agreed that the OAFP is doing a good job communicating with its members.
80% of members agreed or strongly agreed that the OAFP is doing a good job representing the specialty of family medicine.
73% of members indicated that they found their membership in the OAFP to be important or very important.
72% of members indicated that they found that dual membership in the OAFP and the American Academy of Family Physicians to be of moderate or high value to them personally.
Members of the OAFP’s Board of Directors will meet on Sunday, May 5, to discuss action planning for a long-term and sustainable future. Valuable member feedback collected from survey data will serve as the “backbone” of their deliberations. Additional data points within the survey that the Board will utilize during their meeting include several of the following themes:
- To advance the specialty of family medicine
- Legislative and regulatory advocacy on the state and national level
- Unique CME that is designed specifically for family physicians
- Programming that assists physicians in maintaining ABFM Board certification.
- (80%) Legislative and regulatory advocacy in Ohio
- (78%) OAFP’s Quarterly Magazine, The Ohio Family Physician
- (74%) Legislative and regulatory advocacy in Washington, D.C.
- (69%) OAFP’s weekly e-newsletter, The Weekly Family Medicine Update.
- Continue to offer family medicine focused continuing medical education (CME) courses
- Continue OAFP’s legislative and regulatory advocacy efforts
- Maintain and create new American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) activities that assist members with maintaining ABFM Board certification
- Create regional CME and social activities that promote networking among family physicians
- Promote activities that address physician wellness
- Create activities that address personal and professional management issues.
