Ohio Academy of Family Physicians Past President Brian Bachelder, MD, will represent the Academy on the Ohio State Medical Association’s (OSMA) Surprise Billing Workgroup.
OSMA’s House of Delegates recently passed Resolution 2021-15 that pertains to surprise billing. Part of Resolution 2021-15 requires the creation of a workgroup to assess and address the ongoing impact both state and federal out of network laws have on the physician community. Under the terms of the resolution, each specialty group will be permitted to have one OSMA physician representative on the workgroup.
The Ohio Department of Insurance (ODI) recently began the process of promulgating rules to implement Ohio’s laws regarding surprise billing, which passed in the form of House Bill 388 in 2020. The ODI recently released the first set of draft rules which the workgroup will be reviewing for comment.
