Senator Larry Obhof (R-Medina, OH) has been elected the Senate president for the new Ohio General Assembly that begins in January 2017. Senator Bob Peterson (R-Sabina, OH) was elected president pro tempore, Senator Randy Gardner (R-Bowling Green, OH) was elected majority floor leader and Senator Gayle Manning (R-North Ridgeville, OH) was elected majority whip.
Representative Cliff Rosenberger (R-Clarksville, OH) has been re-elected as speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives for the 132nd General Assembly. Others elected to leadership positions in the House include Representative Kirk Schuring (R-Canton, OH) as speaker pro tempore; Representative Dorothy Pelanda (R-Marysville, OH) as majority floor leader; Representative Sarah LaTourette (R-Chesterland, OH) as assistant majority floor leader; Representative Tom Patton (R-Strongsville, OH) as majority whip; and Representative Robert McColley (R-Napoleon, OH) as assistant majority whip.
The Senate Democratic Caucus unanimously voted to re-elect Senator Joe Schiavoni (D-Boardman, OH) as minority leader, a position he has held since 2013. He is joined in leadership by Assistant Minority Leader Charleta Tavares (D-Columbus, OH), Minority Whip Edna Brown (D-Toledo, OH) and Assistant Minority Whip Cecil Thomas (D-Cincinnati, OH).
House Democrats re-elected Representative Fred Strahorn (D-Dayton, OH) as House Minority Leader for the 132nd General Assembly. Rep. Strahorn will be joined on leadership by Assistant Democratic Leader Nicholas J. Celebrezze (D-Parma, OH), Democratic Whip Nickie J. Antonio (D-Lakewood, OH) and Assistant Democratic Whip Emilia Strong Sykes (D-Akron, OH).
