Family Medicine Leads, an AAFP Foundation signature program, focuses on the future of the family medicine specialty by supporting efforts to fill the workforce pipeline with the best and the brightest, as well as developing more and better trained family medicine leaders. This will be accomplished by providing scholarships to students and residents to attend the National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students (National Conference), in addition to a year-long program, the Family Medicine Leads Emerging Leader Institute that builds upon the AAFP National Conference experience.
The winners of the 2016 Family Medicine Leads Scholarships for the National Conference and the Family Medicine Leads Emerging Leader Institute have been determined.

Family Medicine Leads Emerging Leader Institute
The AAFP Foundation’s new competitive leadership development program, the Family Medicine Leads Emerging Leader Institute, has selected its 30 scholars for the program’s second year. The program will enhance the interest and appeal of family medicine, while supporting the development of future family medicine leaders. Haley Coleman, medical student at NEOMED, and Shanna Stryker, family medicine resident from the University of Cincinnati, have been selected for this competitive leadership development program.
The Family Medicine Leads Emerging Leader Institute scholars will attend the National Conference and then participate in workshops at the American Academy of Family Physicians national headquarters. The scholars will develop a post-conference project based upon their respective track with project award recipients returning to present at the following year’s National Conference.
The Family Medicine Leads Scholarships for National Conference and the Family Medicine Leads Emerging Leader Institute awards are provided by the AAFP Foundation, and made possible by the donations of family physicians from across the country.
