We Practice Healthcare Differently
We firmly believe that healthier patient-physician relationships lead to healthier outcomes. That’s why OurHealth physician appointments are booked no less than 20–40 minutes, with a goal of no more than two visits per hour. This gives our physicians the independence, time, and space to actually visit with their patients.
Because we’re wholly independent from hospital systems, practice networks, or other care groups, our model allows physicians to truly focus on patients, not paperwork. And because OurHealth’s primary care services are an employer-sponsored benefit, patients have unlimited access to low- or no-cost health care, creating the opportunity for a truly lasting impact that improves health and well-being.
We’re on a Mission
OurHealth was established to give healthcare plan sponsors a way to give their employees more affordable access to care and to more effectively manage their healthcare costs. In 2009, co-founders Ben Evans and Jeff Wells, MD, started the company in Indianapolis, IN. They envisioned a new approach to health care that prioritized patients by simplifying and increasing access to primary care physicians, while at the same time giving plan sponsors (i.e. employers) more ways to effectively manage healthcare options.
“As an organization, we were founded to radically simplify health care,” said Dr. Wells. “We believed the current state just wasn’t working for physicians and patients, so we developed a new model of primary care where we partner directly with employers to drive better outcomes for patients and improve savings for both the patients we serve and the employers we work with.”
The idea became a reality when they opened the first OurHealth location, a single 800-square-foot clinic in the Indianapolis headquarters of a local software startup. Today, nearly 10 years later, OurHealth provides independent onsite and near-site healthcare solutions to patients from more than 30 employers across the country in more than two dozen clinics, including its multi-location MyClinic networks in Indianapolis and Charlotte, NC.
The results from our simplified approach to care speak for themselves. Last year, 96% of patients who have used OurHealth services rated their experiences as good or excellent. In 2017, we also helped patients lose more than 33,000 pounds, reduce their LDL cholesterol by 76,000 points, and eliminated more than 2,000 points of hemoglobin A1c. Since our founding, we’ve helped employers save more than $140 million in reduced healthcare costs.
