Over 100 family physicians, family medicine residents, and medical students found their joy and refilled their family medicine tanks at the 2016 Members Assembly held August 13-14.
Highlights from the continuing medical education (CME) sessions included presentations on MACRA and CPC+ from Shawn Martin, American Academy of Family Physicians senior vice president for advocacy, practice advancement, and policy; family physician well-being, resiliency, and burnout from Clif Knight, MD, FAAFP, AAFP senior vice president of education; the OAFP’s strategic plan for 2016-20; and the AAFP’s strategic initiatives by Jack Chou, MD. An advocacy luncheon moderated by Lobbyist David Paragas, JD, featuring the state judicial candidates, was also part of the CME sessions.
During the business session, several members posed for photos to showcase the Academy’s strategic plan and family medicine vision with the hashtag #FM2020Vision. These photos can be seen on the Academy’s Facebook page.
True joy was present during the Academy Awards Dinner! The personal stories told and comradery provided an evening to never forget. Ryan Kauffman, MD, FAAFP, was installed as president. Terry Wagner, DO, FAAFP, was recognized as the 2016 Family Physician of the Year and Chris Bernheisel, MD, was recognized as the 2016 Family Medicine Educator of the Year. And, we honored those members celebrating 50 years in medicine. The stories shared were unforgettable!
Much more joy was shared throughout the whole weekend. Photos from the Members Assembly can be found on Facebook. Look for the official Speaker’s Report and other recaps in future editions of the Weekly Family Medicine Update and other OAFP communications.
