- Identify gaps in AAFP resources, if any, that would better support family physicians practicing in urgent care settings.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen care coordination, communication, and continuity between urgent care settings and patients’ family medicine physician, with the goal of improving patient outcomes and reinforcing the value of longitudinal primary care relationships.
- Identify potential collaborations with other organizations that would strengthen the AAFP’s leadership role in the urgent care space and position the organization to shape public and private policies impacting care delivery at urgent care sites.
- Provide recommendations on opportunities for the AAFP to strengthen engagement with family physicians who practice in urgent care settings and to better support their professional development and practice needs.
Additionally, the UC-PAG will host a moderated listening session with family physicians practicing in urgent care centers to secure feedback on the challenges, opportunities, and evolving role of family physicians in urgent care delivery.
The AAFP is seeking individual family physicians who have current work experience in an urgent care center, either full- or part-time. Interested individuals should apply on the AAFP website. Nominations are due by Friday, August 14.
Consistent with the AAFP’s governing rules for PAGs, it will select a single member from each of the chapter size categories: extra-large, large, medium, and small. Additionally, it will select one new physician (1 to 7 years in practice), and one family physician who has past or current engagement with the Urgent Care Medical Association.
The UC-PAG will launch its work on Tuesday, September 1, and will prepare and submit a written report to the AAFP Executive Vice President & CEO on or before Monday, August 30, 2027.
