Legislation that threatens to fundamentally change how physicians and certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) work together in a collaborative manner is once again being considered this time by the Senate Health, Human Services, and Medicaid Committee.
Like its counterpart in the Ohio House (House Bill 191), Senate Bill (SB) 301 would significantly expand the scope of practice of CRNAs and grant them undefined prescriptive authority.
The committee and the full Senate will be active for a few more weeks before the holidays, so the Ohio State Medical Association (OSMA) has issued a call to action for physicians to help ensure that SB 301 does not gain momentum as we close out the year; the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians joins the OSMA in this call to action. Hearing from hundreds of physicians in Ohio about their strong opposition to this bill could be a powerful and critical part of keeping it from advancing any further in this General Assembly.
Please take a few moments to visit the OSMA’s Advocacy Action Center and send a letter to your elected officials. With just a few clicks, you can help us mobilize against SB 301 by urging your elected officials NOT to support this unnecessary and potentially dangerous legislation!
