Two medical student members of the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians, Jacob Brock and Varun Gopinath, have been selected to participate in the AAFP Foundation Family Medicine Leads program. Both second year students at the Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) in Rootstown, OH, Jacob and Varun will each receive a $1,000 scholarship to attend the 2020 AAFP National Conference of Family Medicine Resident and Medical Students (National Conference) scheduled for late July in Kansas City, MO.
Both were also chosen as Family Medicine Emerging Leader Institute Scholars and will be part of the sixth class of 30 scholars. The Emerging Leader Institute immediately follows National Conference and will be held on Thursday-Saturday, July 30–August 1, in Kansas City. Upon conclusion of the Family Medicine Emerging Leader Institute in-depth workshops in three leadership tracks (Policy & Public Health, Personal & Practice, and Philanthropic & Mission-Driven) and a project management session, the 30 scholars will work with an assigned family physician mentor to develop and complete a leadership project based on their track.
Congratulations Jacob and Varun!
