Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) impacts nearly 300,000 children in the United States and is the most common chronic childhood rheumatologic disorder— although trends suggest that the overall prevalence of this disorder is increasing. Due to a national shortage of specialists, including in Ohio, the primary care physician plays an important role in the management of pediatric JIA when access to a sub-specialist is limited.
Through early 2022, the Ohio Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics (Ohio AAP) will host four (4) webinar trainings to teach physicians, nurses, and other pediatric healthcare professionals how to operationalize screening for pediatric JIA using newly created education, tools, and discussion materials. A Journal Club for more in-depth education on pediatric JIA will also be launched this summer.
The first training in this series, set for Friday, August 13, from 12 p.m. – 1:30 p.m., will focus on a general overview of pediatric JIA and will prepare participants to better understand this condition, how it impacts their patients, and best practices when pediatric JIA is identified in practice. One hour of continuing medical education credit is available for qualifying participants in the live training.
