One of the most common complaints of physicians these days is the loss of personal and professional control. The daily demands, especially of family physicians, often pit the need to help others against the necessity for self-care—a cycle that can spin dangerously out of control. Grasp the grips of your own schedule and regain the lead in your own life during our next Wellness Wednesdays session on “Time Management Strategies for Busy Docs.”
Set for Wednesday, May 17, at 12:15 p.m., the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians’ 45-minute Wellness Wednesdays series is dedicated to teaching different types of healthy techniques and practices that will help you become more focused on the most important patient–you.
This month’s session will explore ways to self-manage the most important aspects of your life and improve your mental and physical health at work and at home. Participants will learn techniques to gain control of their schedules so that stress is reduced and personal fulfillment increases.
“We get caught in the don’ts of time management at work and we find ourselves overwhelmed and struggling to saying no, or not making time for our personal lives—pattern that could have disastrous consequences,” said Nelson Heise, clinical director at the Ohio Physicians Health Program (OPHP) and the facilitator of the OAFP’s Wellness Wednesdays program. “ It’s only take a few little tweaks and a different mindset to create more free space at work in order to gain control and freedom for individual pursuits outside of the clinic.”

“Wellness Wednesdays” is a structured, monthly webinar series that focuses on enhancing professional and personal wellness through the joy of medicine. The series is facilitated by a licensed professional clinical counselor from the OPHP, is offered free to physician members, and takes place the third Wednesday of each month over the typical lunch hour (12:15 – 1 p.m.) Participants will start each session with a brief overview of the discussion topic and then led through a practical exercise that helps the participant learn through self-exploration and personal awareness. Participants will have the opportunity to share their own insight at the end of the 45-minute program and make connections with their peers who are also interested in wellness and professional satisfaction.
Archives of the previously recorded sessions and resources can be accessed on the OAFP website.
