Instead of explaining the data about the importance of supporting your Foundation, I’d like to share comments from a 2017 Leroy A. Rodgers, MD, Preceptorship Program participant. Hopefully, this will be all the inspiration you need!
“During my rotation, I had the chance to see patients return multiple times for care. Many patients praised Dr. Hurm for being their best physician and described how many years they’ve fostered their patient-physician relationship. This specific experience reinforced my most favorite part about family medicine; it’s not only a patient-physician relationship; it’s a human-human relationship where patients feel like you care about them as a fellow human being.
“Throughout my first year of medical school, I felt insecure about my clinical reasoning skills during case-based learning, but this summer I was able to practice connecting symptoms to diagnoses. I even had the opportunity to perform my first procedure and removed skin tags on two patients. I experienced a dramatic increase in my confidence examining patients – I really felt a part of the team.
“My summer preceptorship renewed my confidence and zeal that I can lend my personality, skills, and interests to the primary care field. I am so excited to continue the journey of medicine.”
OAFP Foundation programs have benefited thousands of Ohio medical students and residents through educational grants, preceptorship stipends, and scholarships. The generosity of individual donors, like you, helps sustain family medicine pipeline programs that encourage students to choose a family medicine career and develop future leaders for the specialty.
Will you help provide opportunities for more medical students, like the one highlighted above, to see their true potential in a family medicine career?
Make a donation today – no matter how big or small – to the future of your specialty!
Thank you for your consideration and happy holidays!
