The Columbus Dispatch investigated 1,583 cases of suicides in nine Ohio counties. In cases where coroners did an investigation into issues related to the cause of death, over 40% of victims were dealing with a medical issue or chronic physical pain. One-third of those persons were not diagnosed with mental health issues, it was their physical health that was affecting their overall health.
