As we wrap up another impactful year, the OAFP Foundation extends sincere thanks to all OAFP members who have supported our mission, through donations, in-kind gifts, mentorship, and active engagement in developing the next generation of family physicians. Your commitment makes a tangible difference for students across Ohio.
This year marked a major milestone: the 35th anniversary of the Leroy A. Rodgers, MD, Preceptorship Program. This nationally recognized, award-winning initiative has connected more than 1,650 medical students with dedicated family physician mentors. As 2019 participant Dr. Joseph Laseter shared, the program “puts the power of family medicine into action,” inspiring students to pursue careers centered on community, continuity, and patient trust.
To honor this anniversary, the Foundation launched the 35 for 35 Challenge—a year-end effort to raise $35,000 by Wednesday, December 31, to support student stipends, scholarships, and hands-on learning opportunities. We are just $15,000 away from reaching our goal.
- Preceptorship experiences for 56 first-year medical students
- Scholarships to the Family Medicine Education Consortium and the American Academy of Family Physicians national congresses
- Leadership development opportunities for Ohio student and resident delegates
- Career-shaping programming that strengthens the family medicine pipeline.
- Contribute to the 35 for 35 challenge
- Honor a mentor, mentee, or colleague with a tribute gift
- Make tax-wise contributions, including Qualified Charitable Distributions (for eligible donors)
- Shop with purpose through the Foundation’s Bonfire Store or iGive partners.
Your gift today helps ensure that aspiring family physicians have the mentorship, encouragement, and real-world experiences they need to thrive—strengthening family medicine in Ohio for years to come.
Thank you for investing in the future of our specialty. We wish you and your loved ones a joyful and healthy holiday season.
