With regard to the August Ohio Automated Rx Reporting System (OARRS) compliance reports issued on October 15, the State Medical Board of Ohio (SMBO) has identified a problem with specific chains of pharmacies and the exclusion of ICD-10 codes. Even when a prescriber’s electronic medical record (EMR) pulls the ICD-10 over automatically, the ICD-10 codes are somehow not being transmitted to the pharmacy or are getting removed at the pharmacy level. The SMBO says they have alerted the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy (SOBP) about this problem.
In addition, gabapentin scripts are not required to have ICD-10 codes on them; they are required to have days-supply. Gabapentin scripts with no IDC-10 codes were included in August compliance reports in error. The SOBP has been notified that this correction needs made.
Integration of the prescribers’ license number and email did not occur seamlessly and therefore, were, in several thousand instances, paired erroneously. The problem needs addressed by OARRS.
Interestingly, the communication from the SMBO asks for patience and cooperation as the medical and pharmacy boards work through the process of correcting errors, but fails to apologize for their errors and inconvenience caused.
