The Ohio Academy of Family Physicians is mourning the loss of retired Executive Vice President Florence Landis who passed away on August 30 at the age of 99. She worked for the OAFP for 36 years – beginning as secretary in 1953 and ending her career in 1989 as the Academy’s EVP.
Florence was an OAFP institution. The OAFP will be making a contribution to the OAFP Foundation in Florence’s memory. Members who knew Florence and who wish to pay tribute to her memory are encouraged to do the same.
Her obituary reads as follows:
“Florence Irene “Flo” Landis was born on December 20, 1919, to George and Julia Brecheisen in Loudonville, OH. She passed away August 30, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband George E. Landis and siblings Delilah, Roger, and Lawrence. Flo was a graduate of Loudonville High School and spent two years at the Wooster Business School. Florence served in the Women’s Army Corp in WWII in Belgium, England, and France, and received her Honorable Discharge on October 15, 1945. She started working as a secretary for the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians in 1953. She retired 36 years later as the Academy’s Executive Vice President in 1989. She was a long-time member of Zontas International and volunteer for Riverside Hospice. Flo was an independent woman, ahead of her time. When she was not working, she was either playing bridge, reading The Columbus Dispatch cover to cover, or volunteering. She most appreciated, as did her family, all those friends that visited her often at Crown Pointe Care Center, where she was a permanent resident since 2011. A private graveside service will be held at Kingwood Cemetery.”
