The Ohio Academy of Family Physicians (OAFP), in partnership with the Arkansas, Maryland, Minnesota, and Wisconsin chapters of the American Academy of Family Physicians, is excited to announce a virtual, American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM)-endorsed Family Medicine Certification knowledge self-assessment (KSA) group study focused on hypertension.
Mark your calendar and register now for this opportunity on Sunday, December 7, beginning at 5:30 p.m. EST! This program is limited to the first 45 Ohio members who register and typically takes four hours to complete.
This program will use Zoom software to allow family physician learners from across the country the opportunity to complete a KSA while engaging their peers and an expert content leader from a location of their choosing.
Topic Details
The newly revised Hypertension ABFM-developed KSA activity focuses on diagnosis and risk stratification of a hypertensive patient, recognizing and managing hypertensive crisis and secondary causes of hypertension, managing hypertensive patients with both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic methods, managing hypertensive patients with comorbid illness, and consideration of hypertension evaluation and management in special populations.
After successful completion of the Hypertension KSA, the physician will have been exposed to up-to-date content as it relates to Hypertension and have an opportunity to close knowledge gaps that existed prior to participation in the Hypertension KSA activity. Learning objectives include:
- Diagnose the hypertensive patient and recognize and evaluate the secondary causes of hypertension.
- Identify and manage a hypertensive crisis.
- Have a better understanding of risk stratification of the hypertensive patient.
- Have a better understanding of pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic management of hypertension.
- Have a better understanding of how to manage hypertension in patients with comorbid illness and those in special populations.
For members, the cost to attend is $120 ($90 for Ohio residents). To register, please visit the OAFP website. The deadline to register is Friday, November 28. Participation is open to the first 45 registrants, and registrants after the first 45 will be placed on a waiting list. The overall virtual KSA attendance will not exceed 175 participants.
ABFM Information
It is helpful that members check their eligibility with the ABFM before registering for the KSA. Participants will receive credit if they are currently eligible and enrolled in the ABFM Family Medicine Certification (FMC) Process, haven’t completed the current FMC stage, haven’t completed the KSA topic within the last three years, and attended and fully participated in the educational discussion for the entire session. To check your status with ABFM, call 877.223.7437 or log into your MyABFM Portfolio to ensure you are eligible to take this KSA group session.
If you have questions about registration, please contact Jessica Gmerick or call 614.267.7867.
CME Accreditation
Completion of a KSA provides participants with 10 certification points towards their ABFM certification requirement. In addition, these activities are reviewed by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) for Live Prescribed continuing medical education credits.
The AAFP has reviewed Virtual KSA: Hypertension and deemed it acceptable for up to 8.00 Knowledge Self-Assessment, Live AAFP Prescribed credit(s). Term of Approval is from December 7, 2025 to December 7, 2025. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
