As we begin a new year, we’re pleased to share highlights from the OAFP Foundation’s (Foundation) 2025 Annual Report and provide an update on the 35 for 35 Challenge, launched last summer in celebration of a milestone year for the Foundation.
A Year of Meaningful Impact
Established in 1987, the Foundation exists to meet the philanthropic interests of Ohio Academy of Family Physicians (OAFP) members while directly strengthening healthcare delivery across Ohio. As the only 501(c)(3) organization in the state dedicated exclusively to promoting family medicine as a career choice for medical students, the Foundation continues to play a vital role in building and sustaining Ohio’s family medicine workforce.
Throughout 2025, the Foundation invested in scholarships, hands-on learning experiences, and leadership opportunities that guide students and residents along the family medicine pathway. Through these programs, learners are empowered to explore the specialty, discover their place within it, and receive meaningful support at every stage of their journey.
- Reaching 125+ medical students and residents through Foundation programs
- Supporting student attendance at national and regional conferences, including the American Academy of Family Physicians’ FUTURE conference and the Family Medicine Education Consortium’s Annual Meeting
- Continuing the long-standing Leroy A. Rodgers, MD, Preceptorship Program, which has engaged more than 1,650 students since 1990
- Supporting resident and student delegates to the National Congress of Family Medicine Residents and National Congress of Student Members.
In 2025, the Foundation proudly celebrated the 35th anniversary of the Leroy A. Rodgers, MD, Preceptorship Program, a cornerstone of experiential learning in Ohio and a nationally recognized model. This milestone year was made even more special by the program’s receipt of an Outstanding Program Award from the AAFP Foundation, honoring both its impact and the dedication of Ohio’s preceptors.
The Foundation also recognized Roma Amin, MD, FAAFP, as the recipient of the 2025 Family Physician Mentorship Award, celebrating her exceptional commitment to mentoring students and colleagues and inspiring the next generation of family physicians.
35 for 35 Challenge: A Milestone Worth Celebrating
Launched last summer to commemorate 35 years of the Preceptorship Program’s impact, the 35 for 35 Challenge invited members and supporters to make a meaningful gift in honor of this milestone year. Whether through a first-time contribution, an increased annual gift, or a tribute to a mentor or program that shaped their journey, members stepped up in inspiring ways.
As we enter the new year, the challenge continues to gain momentum — a reflection of the collective commitment of Ohio’s family medicine community to investing in the future of the specialty. Every contribution directly supports programs that spark interest in family medicine, provide early exposure, and strengthen the pathway of future family physicians across the state.
Thank You for Being Part of the Impact
